More Context, Better Collaboration: Comment History in Data+

The latest update in the Data+ Suite brings a small but powerful improvement to your Qlik apps: Comment History.

If you've used standard text inputs in Data+ before, you'll appreciate this upgrade. Instead of overwriting comments with each save, Comment History opens a chat-style pop-up window that keeps a full chronological record — including author and timestamp.

In our latest tutorial, we show you how to convert an existing text input into a Comment History field, customize its behavior, and make it work for your business processes.

What makes Comment History useful?

  • Chronological comment tracking in a clean pop-up interface

  • User identification based on Windows account

  • Timestamps with full precision (including seconds)

  • Stored as JSON, keeping full history

  • Dedicated API endpoint to append comments without overwriting existing content

Perfect for scenarios where context matters — whether it’s approvals, internal notes, or documentation right inside your app.

A look inside the tutorial

In the video, we update a previously created column – no new database fields needed. We also demonstrate how to extract user names from Windows accounts for clear authorship, and how to format timestamps just the way you need.

And for developers: with the addCommentToTableEntry API endpoint, you can programmatically add comments to the table – fully versioned and audit-ready.

Why it matters

Comment History adds real collaboration to your Qlik frontend. No more back-and-forth emails or manual tracking – just structured, transparent input exactly where it belongs.

If you're building apps your teams actually want to work with – this one’s for you.
